Case report covers autoimmune ascites

A case of autoimmune ascites was published Oct. 15 by Annals of Internal Medicine: Clinical Cases.
The condition occurred in a 72-year-old woman with a history of type 2 diabetes and osteoarthritis who presented with an overlap syndrome involving diffuse systemic sclerosis and systemic lupus erythematosus. The authors noted that ascites is uncommon in systemic autoimmune diseases and that its association with systemic sclerosis and systemic lupus erythematosus is extremely rare.
