Case report describes hepatic abscess after laparoscopic cholecystectomy
A rare care of hepatic abscess caused by Achromobacter xylosoxidans occurred in a 40-year-old immunocompetent woman who had had a laparoscopic cholecystectomy nine months prior.
A case report published in the June 6 Annals of Internal Medicine: Clinical Cases provided details on a rare case of hepatic abscess caused by Achromobacter xylosoxidans.
A 40-year-old immunocompetent woman who had had a laparoscopic cholecystectomy nine months previously developed a hepatic abscess. While A. xylosoxidans causes opportunistic and nosocomial infections in immunocompromised patients, after a cholecystectomy, dropped stones can serve as nidus for abscess formation, the authors noted.
