Case reports published on gastroenterology, hepatology topics

Reports on ibuprofen-induced liver injury, emphysematous gastritis, and cholecystalgia resulting from gallbladder edema were published in the past month.

Annals of Internal Medicine: Clinical Cases recently published three case reports on gastroenterology and hepatology topics.

One report published Jan. 17 described a case of ibuprofen-induced liver injury in a 64-year-old patient with a history of alcohol use disorder, cholecystectomy three months prior due to recurrent gallstone pancreatitis, and colostomy with takedown for an abdominal gunshot wound. The man presented to the ED with acute right upper quadrant abdominal pain and elevated liver chemistries.

The other two reports were published Jan. 3. One described the medical management of emphysematous gastritis in a 95-year-old patient with altered mental status, sepsis, and coffee-ground emesis. The other presented a case of cholecystalgia resulting from gallbladder edema in a 52-year-old patient with newly diagnosed alcohol-induced cardiomyopathy without the common congestive heart failure signs and symptoms.
