Case reports published on gastroenterology, hepatology topics
Reports on biliary obstruction secondary to pancreatic cancer, atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome precipitated by recurrent pancreatitis, emphysematous cholecystitis, and colon perforation in the setting of sevelamer crystals were published in the past month.
Two case reports and two image/video cases on gastroenterology and hepatology topics were published in the past month by Annals of Internal Medicine: Clinical Cases.
One case report, published Aug. 2, described a 72-year-old woman who presented for a routine primary care visit with controlled hyperlipidemia but was later found to have biliary obstruction resulting from pancreatic adenocarcinoma. The second case report, also published Aug. 2, described a case of complement-mediated atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome likely precipitated by recurrent alcohol-induced pancreatitis. Image/video cases of emphysematous cholecystitis and colon perforation in the setting of sevelamer crystals were published on Aug. 16.
