Noninvasive methods show promise for CRC screening
A DNA blood-based test had approximately 83% sensitivity for colorectal cancer (CRC) and 13% sensitivity for advanced precancerous lesions in one industry-funded study, while a next-generation multitarget stool DNA test showed higher sensitivity but lower specificity for CRC and advanced precancerous lesions than fecal immunochemical testing in another.

In persons aged ≥45 y, the mt-sRNA test had 94% sensitivity for colorectal cancer and 46% for advanced adenomas
The results of the industry-funded study support the use of the multitarget stool RNA (mt-sRNA) test for screening, but better adherence will be needed, and it is unclear whether the new test offers any advantages over current stool DNA testing, an ACP Journal Club commentary said.

Higher fecal hemoglobin concentration on FIT may support shorter screening interval

Start screening for colorectal cancer at age 50 years, ACP suggests

Risk for CRC with young-onset adenomas may vary by stage

Colonoscopy common, riskier in those with life expectancy of less than 10 years
